God is in Charge
I heard a beautiful song today by Fernando Ortega. Here are some of the words:
OUR GREAT GOD
“Let every creature in the sea
And every flying bird
Let all the mountains, all the fields
And valleys of the earth
Let all the moons and all the stars
Throughout the universe
Sing praises to the Living God
Who rules them by His word”
There’s another verse to the song. It says this:
“Lord, we are weak and frail,
Helpless in the storm
Surround us with your angels
Hold us in your arms
Our cold and ruthless enemy
His pleasure is our harm
Rise up, oh Lord, and he will flee
Before our Sovereign God”
I read Psalm 123 this morning. We hear the psalmist’s heart cry as he looks to the Lord who is our ultimate refuge when we feel like our soul has had “more than enough.” When we feel overwhelmed or just plain discouraged, we can always pray to the One who sees and understands.
“To you I lift up my eyes,
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
Behold, as the eyes of servants
look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maidservant
to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he has mercy upon us.
Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
for we have had more than enough of contempt.”
(Psalm 123, verses 1-3)
When it feels like the enemy is marshalling his forces to fight God’s people, when there are problems bigger than we can handle, let’s remember Jesus conquered death. We serve a risen Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth, our Savior. He wants us to call out to Him day and night. He will help, and in drawing near to Him we will be comforted and strengthened for our daily battles.
As Psalm 124:8 says,
“Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”
